About Diesel
Q. What is diesel?
A. Put simply, diesel engines use a technique of burning
fuel by injecting it in to compressed air, rather than mixing
it like petrol. Because of this, diesel engines doesn't
require the spark plug found in petrol engines to ignite
the fuel, as air becomes extremely hot when compressed and
when the diesel fuel is injected, it combusts as a reaction.
The energy produced by this reaction is what powers the
pistons of a diesel engine.
Q. Isn't diesel more polluting than petrol?
A. Contrary to previous belief, it's been proved cleaner.
The old image of smoky exhausts is now a thing of the past,
and engines have been refined to become quieter, smoother
and, above all, cleaner. In actual fact, diesels have lower
carbon monoxide and dioxide emissions compared to petrol.
With climate change a tricky subject in the car industry,

Q. Isn't diesel more expensive than petrol?
A. No - only if you're looking at the price tariff boards
at your petrol station or at the price of a diesel engine.
What's essential is the superior fuel efficiency. Over the
